SCE&G customers receiving a number of high bills

While there are thousands of unhappy customers, the bills still have to paid; at a ceaseless pace call center staff offer up some options.

CHARLESTON, SC – At SCE&G’s call center in North Charleston the calls are constant following the recent number of high bills received by residents, some almost doubled in a single month.

While there are thousands of unhappy customers, the bills still have to be paid. Call center staff offer up some options. SCE&G’s spokesperson Kim Asbill says there are things people can do if they get a high bill.  “We’ve got a budget billing program that will help folks so that the bill is the same every single month– so you don’t have a high one month and very low the next.”

The utility company says the higher rates are needed to help pay for nuclear power facilities being built. The plants will eventually save people money but there are now calls for an independent investigation into the hike.

That means little to those who are paying hundreds more for their electric bill every month.

“I think the worst thing you can do is when you get your bill and you are overwhelmed and say I will deal with it later that is probably the worst thing you can do. Take your bill, the phone numbers on the bill give us a call and let us know how we can help you.” said Asbill.
