HORRY COUNTY, SC (WBTW) – A Summerton man was arrested after, police say, he attempted to steal more than $10,000 worth of merchandise from a jewelry store in the Myrtle Beach Mall.
According to Lt. Raul Denis with the Horry County Police Department, Officers responded to Empress Jewelers in the Myrtle Beach Mall Sunday around 6 p.m. for a shoplifting call. Police say the suspect, 30-year-old Tanniah Whitfield, attempted to steal more than $10,000 in merchandise.
Horry County officers, with assistance from the Briarcliff Acres Police Department, saturated the area quickly and apprehended Whitfield with the jewelry still in his possession. Whitfield is in police custody but his accomplice, the get-away-driver, was able to avoid arrest and fled the area in a white, ’99 Ford Crown Victoria.

Whitfield is at the Horry County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing for the charge of shoplifting value over $10,000.
