Back to school traffic could cause congestion at new schools

CHARLESTON, SC – Traffic problems at the new Jennie Moore and Laing schools in Mount Pleasant have officials advising parents to take Porchers Bluff road to get to/from the campus.

Monday morning traffic was backed up considerably on Hamlin Road. In addition to the two new schools, some construction around Hamlin Road contributed to the problem.

School district officials are asking parents who are coming from Highway 41 to use Porchers Bluff road and Billy Swails Blvd near Walmart to get to the Sweetgrass campus.

These are brand new schools, so this is a new traffic flow. Officials believe this change will help with the traffic problem at Hamlin Road.
