The Berkeley County coroner has identified the suspect shot by law enforcement after a pursuit through Dorchester County as 24 year old Shamir Terrel Palmer of Ridgeville.
SLED authorities are telling News 2 that a call came in to the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office originally, as a shots fired call. Shortly after, State Troopers attempted to do a routine traffic stop on the vehicle. Authorities say they didn’t know it was the car that DCSO was looking for. Highway Patrol followed the car which slowed down, that’s when the driver fired one shot at the trooper vehicle. Two passengers climbed out of the car at that point and tried to run away. Troopers caught the two of them.
The suspect vehicle then fled and the pursuit was picked up by DCSO. The pursuit went into Schultz Lane area at some point. That’s when the suspect car hit several objects, and troopers ordered the suspect to drop the weapon. The suspect would not drop the weapon, and shots were fired on the suspect, who died at the scene. The autopsy is being conducted at MUSC either later Saturday or Sunday, according to SLED.
An attorney for the suspect’s family says they will be releasing a statement.
