Kiawah Golf Pro killed in car crash

JOHNS ISLAND, SC – On Saturday, August 8, shortly after 3 a.m., Charleston County Deputies responded to a single car accident at Main Road and Ambor Street on Johns Island.

A white Honda was found on flipped onto its roof and it looked like it had hit several trees.

The driver, Michael Townsend, 32, of Johns Island, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The coroner says he died from injuries sustained in the accident.

Townsend was the PGA Head Golf Professional at Cassique at the Kiawah Island Club.

Townsend’s memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 12 in North Carolina at the Bentwinds Country Club in Fuquay-Varina. We’re told visitation will be from 12:30-2 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m.

The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Division and the Charleston County Coroner’s Office are investigating the accident.
