ATLANTA, G.A. – 19-year-old Pitt County native Alexus Washington is now charged with murder in her daughter’s death.
Jail records show Washington still faces one count of reckless conduct and one count of cruelty to children in the second degree.
Washington is currently in Fulton County jail in Georgia on a total of $30,000 bond.
Family members tell WNCT, a detective in case says the preliminary autopsy shows the 2-year-old had ligature marks around her neck and water in her lungs.
The final report has yet to be released.
Washington was found outside a Greyhound bus station early Tuesday morning holding her dead 2-year-old daughter, Ty’mia Simpson.
According to the Fulton County medical examiner, the cause of death is pending a toxicology report.
Family had been working to keep the baby safe and made reports to the Pitt County Department of Social Services in regards to the baby’s safety.
Pitt County DSS Director Jan Elliot confirms that her agency was involved with the mom and child. Elliot said she cannot comment on the case any further, as this is now a death investigation in the state of Georgia.
A funeral will be held for Ty’mia, 1 p.m. Thursday at Phillipi Church of Christ in Greenville.
Washington will make her next court appearance on August 6th at the Fulton County Courthouse.
