MONCKS CORNER, SC (July 30, 2015) – The Berkeley County Board of Education has named three finalists for the superintendent position. In preparation for candidate visits, the Board has planned receptions for Tuesday, August 4; Wednesday, August 5; and Thursday, August 6, to allow employees, community members and business leaders an opportunity to meet and hear from the three superintendent finalists.
On each of these three days, a reception for Berkeley County School District employees will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., and a reception for community members and business leaders will follow from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. One of the three finalists will be present at the receptions each day.
Dr. Samuel DePaul will visit the district on Tuesday, August 4, followed by Dr. Jerome Stewart on Wednesday, August 5, and Ms. Brenda Blackburn on Thursday, August 6.
Receptions will be held in the District Office Board room in Moncks Corner. Following these events, the Board will conduct a second extensive interview in executive session with the candidate present that day.
“We really hope that employees and members of the community will drop-in and greet each candidate. Community input is very important to us, and we want employees and members of the public to have an opportunity to meet these finalists,” said Jim Hayes, Chairman of the Berkeley County Board of Education.
The Board conducted initial interviews last week with a slate of candidates recommended by B.W.P. & Associates search consultants. The candidates are those determined to best fit the leadership profile designed from earlier meetings with the Board, employees, community members and online survey results.
When these three candidates return to the district August 4 through August 6, each finalist will spend one full day in the district touring schools and the community and interacting with Board members, employees and the public. The receptions will culminate a day of district activities for the candidate.
“This is the most important decision that a school board makes. We have appreciated the support and interest from the community during this process and look forward to announcing the next leader for our school district very soon,” said Hayes.
