Chemist lived in N. Charleston home where hazardous material was found, no criminal charges

The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office has released an update on the hazardous material found at 8039 Nova Court in North Charleston on Tuesday, July 28.

According to officials, the chemicals were found by an associate of the man who lived in the home. The homeowner, retired from the VA hospital as a chemist in 1994.

Officials describe the man who lived at the residence as elderly.

The chemicals were found in the garage area of the home and had been there for a long period of time. Authorities said the chemicals that were removed were very old and outdated scientific chemicals and they were all properly destroyed.

There will be no criminal charges at this time.

Charleston County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the incident.
