A fire investigation is underway in Colleton County after authorities say a man set a home on fire following a domestic dispute.
On Monday, July 27 at 8:34 pm, 911 dispatchers received frantic calls from a man pouring gasoline on the outside of a Jonesville Avenue home.
Officials with the Colleton County Fire-Rescue say three people, including two children, were inside at the time.
Firefighters arrived about two minutes later and found fire on the exterior of the home and heavy smoke coming from the eaves on all sides of the building. Flames also entered into the attic space.
We’re learning the interior fire damage was minimal, but firefighters had to pull down a portion of the ceiling in one room to access the attic.
Colleton County Sheriff’s Deputies are searching for the male relative who fled the scene and did not return. No injuries were reported.
Fire units were at the home for three and half hours to extinguish any hotspots.
The American Red Cross has been assisting the family since Monday night, getting them a place to stay, assistance for food & comfort kits.
