The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office arrested one man and is searching for two others in connection with a strong armed robbery of a pizza delivery driver Monday night.
Deputies first received reports of a delivery driver being robbed in the 200 block of Gibbons Street shortly after 11 p.m. Monday. Upon arrival, deputies were informed a 31-year-old man had allegedly been assaulted by three suspects during a delivery to what ultimately turned out to be a vacant house, where the suspects allegedly stole a wallet, pizza and a cell phone from the victim.
Officers from the agency’s K-9 unit were called to the scene, and were able to track one of the suspects, 18-year-old Maleeke Antoine Myers of 209 Independence Avenue, to his nearby home. Two other suspects, described at this time only as African-American males in their late teens to early twenties, remain at large.
Myers was charged with strong arm robbery and criminal conspiracy. He is being held at the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with any information into this incident is asked to call either the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office at (803) 436-2000, or Crime Stoppers at (803) 436-2718.
