According to Public Information Officer Emily Flax with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, deputies went to the home of lottery winner Marie Holmes, 26, to arrest Lamar Andre McDow, 31, for violating the terms of his pre-trial release agreement.

Holmes, who received a $127 million in a lump sum from the North Carolina Education Lottery in February, stated after winner the cash that she had previously quit jobs at Wal-Mart and McDonald’s to care for her four children, one of whom has cerebral palsy. Her children are 7, 4 and 3-years-old and she also has a 9 month old.

While at the residence, officials smelled a strong odor of marijuana in the home. Deputies returned to the home with search warrants around 10 p.m. Thursday where they found marijuana, drug paraphernalia and a .45 caliber pistol.

Three children were inside the home at the time the search warrant was executed, according to Flax, but Child Protective Services was not involved in the case. It is not known with whom the children, ages 4, 5, and 9, were placed when the arrests were made nor is it clear who the parents are to each of the children.

Four arrests were made at the Boverie Street home after the search warrant was executed. Holmes, along with Damarius Dontrell Simmons, 21, and Danell Lamont McNeil, 31, all of Shallotte, were each cited for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Also arrested during the incident was Jeffrey Antuan Gause, 23, of Shallotte.  He was charged with resisting a public officer. Gause was booked and later released from the the Brunswick County Detention Facility under a $1,000 bond.

McDow, taken into custody at the Boverie St. home earlier Thursday evening, was also charged with possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana paraphernalia and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to Flax. McDow is currently being detained in the Brunswick County Detention Facility under a $6 million bond.
