GOOSE CREEK, SC – A group is asking that the Confederate flag be removed from the Sons of Confederate Veterans’ name on the “Welcome to Goose Creek signs.”
The National Action Network says it does not object to the veterans’ group being among the organizations welcoming people to the city of more than 35,000 people about 15 miles northwest of Charleston.
Multiple media outlets say the network wants the Confederate flag removed from the group’s emblem.
Mayor Michael Heitzler said he sees no reason for removal.
Concerns follow the shooting of nine people at a historic black Charleston church. The suspect has been seen in pictures with the Confederate flag.
The National Action Network also plans to visit Moncks Corner and Mount Pleasant to urge removal of the flag emblems on their welcome signs.
