CHARLESTON, SC – An investigation is underway into the vandalism of Bethel A.M.E. Church at 1827 Central Park Road on James Island.
A member of the church found four holes in the front window and broken glass in the sanctuary. It appears the damage was from gunshots.
The church was empty at the time of the incident.
In a police report, the Reverend of the Church said no one had been in the church since Sunday, July 19 at 2:00 P.M. at the end of their Sunday church service. She said that from that time until Wednesday, July 22 at 11:00 A.M., is when the vandalism would have occurred. She also told police that the damage will cost the church approximately $4,000 because that’s how much it cost to fix the same glass a few years ago when it was broken from someone throwing rocks at it.
A crime scene tech and K-9 Officer responded to the church when the call came in.
If you have any information on this incident, please call Consolidated Dispatch at 743-7200 and as for the on-call Charleston Police detective or call Crime Stoppers at 554-1111.
