CONWAY, S.C. (WBTW) – A toddler is in the hospital after the child discovered a gun and fired the weapon near their face Tuesday morning, according to the Conway Police Department.
Lt. Selena Small with Conway Police confirms that officers were dispatched to a home on Second Avenue at about 11:36 a.m. Tuesday morning. The child was injured after reportedly finding a gun and pulling the trigger, causing the weapon to discharge near the toddler’s face, according to Lt. Small.
While the extent of the child’s injuries are unknown, Lt. Small adds the toddler was taken to a local hospital and is conscious at this time. It has not been determined if charges will be filed in this case.
“We are actively investigating this case and once we have all the information we will review and determine the outcome of case,” states Lt. Small.
It was not immediately known who was responsible for the child’s welfare at the time of the incident.
