North Charleston, S.C. – The South Carolina Stingrays join Hockey Players for Kids (HP4K) for the 3rd Annual Kid’s Day with the children of the Carolina Youth Development Center (CYDC) Freedom Schools at the Carolina Ice Palace on Wednesday, July 15 from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Stingrays Head Coach Spencer Carbery, a founding member of HP4K, alongside the team mascot, Cool Ray, Stingrays alumni and team staff join over 50 children for a day of ice skating, hockey and fun. The children learn about the game of hockey, try on equipment, take ice skating lessons and cruise around the complex in the Liquid Box Fan Zam courtesy of Scott Adams of Liquid Box Trucking.
HP4K is an all-volunteer organization made up players in professional hockey and focused on providing a positive influence on children in local communities. Carolina Youth Development Center Freedom Schools provide six-week summer programs hosting third through eighth grade students in North Charleston and focus on literacy, while providing fun activities in the community.
Overall, Carolina Youth Development Center is a 501(C)(3) organization that provides programs reaching over 600 at-risk children and youth locally each year and care for young individuals with battling severe issues including physical and sexual abuse, neglect, abandonment, and severe emotional disorders. Founded in 1970, CYDC is a direct descendant of the Charleston Orphan House, America’s first publicly funded orphanage. Click here for more information on the CYCD. In addition to Kids Day, the Stingrays teamed up with the CYDC for the NHL Winter Classic Ticket raffle and the team’s first-ever Undie Sunday.
