West Ashley man sentenced after guilty plea in fatal DUI crash

17-year-old Kylie Gillette was killed in crash.

CHARLESTON, SC – Monday a judge sentenced 21-year-old James Munn to 14 years in prison on felony DUI charges in connection with a fatal car crash in August of 2014.

Prosecutors say 21-year-old James Munn was drunk when he hit 17-year-old Kylie Gillette head on.  Gillette was killed instantly in the crash.

Prosecutors say Munn drove off the road and over-corrected crossing the yellow line smashing into Kylie Gillette’s car.

Munn had just left the home of a friend who died in a plane crash a few days earlier, where he had been drinking.  During sentencing, the prosecutor said Munn illegally bought the beer that he brought to the friend’s house.

During sentencing Munn apologized to the Gillette family and said “I pray for the Gillette family.”
