CHARLESTON, SC – Monday July 13 the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office arrested Thomas DeAngleo Ancrum, Jr. for Murder and Possession of a Firearm during the commission of a violent crime.
Ancrum was identified through various tips as being involved in the shooting.
Tuesday, July 7 at 12:17a.m., Charleston Police officers responded to Hazelwood Drive in response to gunshots being heard in the area. We’re told a short time later, the victim, Demeatrius Smalls, arrived at St. Francis Hospital with two gunshot wounds, according to reports. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
According to witnesses at the scene, Smalls was accompanied by another male and female in a car that was parked on Hazelwood Drive in Charleston. Two males exited the vehicle to meet unknown subjects behind a home at 1927 Hazelwood Drive soon after gunshots were heard. Smalls was transported to the hospital by his two friends who accompanied him to Hazelwood Drive.
