Man charged with felony DUI following crash in Colleton County

South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating following a deadly accident in Colleton County.

LCpl Hannah Wimberly with the SC Highway Patrol says on Monday, July 06 at 2:30am Darnell Roach, 19, of Ravenell  was driving a 2007 Nissan Altima on Jacksonboro Rd  when he ran off the left side of the road.  We’re told he struck several trees and the vehicle overturned.  Roach was taken to the Medical University Hospital in Charleston with unknown injuries.

The front seat passenger was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the car.  The passenger was taken to MUSC as well, according to Wimberly. The back seat driver, later identified as Neeshai Nychell Frazier-Sanders, was also ejected from the car and sustained fatal injuries.

Fire units arrived minutes after the initial report to find the heavily damaged Nissan Altima blocking Jacksonboro Road approximately 500 feet north of Charleston Highway, according to officials with Colleton Fire-Rescue .

The SC Highway Patrol, MAIT and the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the crash.

Jacksonboro Road in the area of the accident was closed for approximately eight hours.

Darnell Roach is being charged with felony DUI.
