FOLLY BEACH, SC — The kids around the pier seemed to have a great time catching not tuna or trout, but sharks.
The sharks that were being caught were sand and black tip sharks only measuring up to about a foot in length.
Although they are rather harmless, due to pier code, fisherman can not keep the sharks and must release them immediately after capture.
One of the kids that caught a shark said, “Well, I’m from Indiana, so catching a shark is awesome. It’s like a cute little friend you want to keep at home until it gets big.”
Black tip sharks can grow up to 8 feet and sand sharks can grow up to 10 feet. So that catches may be cute today, but will soon grow up to be the predator of the sea.
