Edisto teen arrested for stealing golf cart

Early on the morning of June 30th, Matthew Lammers, along with two 15 year old males, allegedly stole a golf cart from a residence on Jungle Road.

EDISTO BEACH, SC – The Edisto Beach Police Department has charged a local man with multiple charges in a recent incident. Chief George Brothers stated that Matthew Raymond Lammers, age 18,  of 509 Dolphin Street was charged with two counts of Grand Larceny and two counts of Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor.

Early on the morning of June 30th, Lammers, along with two 15 year old males, allegedly stole a golf cart from a residence on Jungle Road.   Lammers than picked up two 15 year old males that he was acquaintances with.  After this stolen golf cart broke down, Lammers and the two boys stole a second golf cart from another nearby home.

According to Chief Brothers, shortly after the theft, the trio was spotted by an Edisto Beach Police officer driving the stolen cart on Docksite Road.  When the officer attempted to speak with them, Lammers and the boys took off on the golf cart.  The officer initiated the blue light on his patrol car and the trio drove the golf cart off the road into a tree.

One of the juveniles was taken into custody immediately and the second juvenile was taken into custody a short time later.    Both were released to their parents.

Lammers was arrested Saturday for the charges related to the incident.  He was transported to the Colleton County Detention Center
