Escaped Kershaw County inmate returned to jail by parents

KERSHAW COUNTY, SC (WACH) – Yancey Wilson, the inmate who escaped from the Kershaw County Detention Center is back in custody.

Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews said Wilson’s parents returned him to deputies and they have now transported him to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center in Richland County.

Wilson was on the loose for several hours Wednesday he escaped from the Kershaw County Detention Center around 3pm.

Wilson, 22, was being held at the facility after it was alleged he robbed a Bethune bank June 23.

A red jumpsuit was found outside the detention center’s secured area and after a head count, it was confirmed Wilson was the man who escaped.

Sheriff Matthews said a civilian saw him around 3:30pm waving down cars, wearing only plaid boxer shorts.

A bloodhound tracked Wilson near the Wateree River by Camden.

The Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office, along with SLED, SC Highway Patrol and Camden Police were in full force looking for Wilson.
