In the early morning hours on Sunday, June 14th, the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office responded to a fatal wreck on Highway 41 near the Berkeley County, Charleston County line.
24-year-old Julian Tyler Spears of Mount Pleasant was the driver of a sedan headed north on Highway 41 when he ran off the right side of the road, causing his vehicle to overturn several times. The car hit several trees and caught fire.
Spears was pronounced dead at the scene by Chief Deputy Coroner George Oliver of the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office.
The passenger, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected during the crash and was transported to MUSC. Officials were unable to determine if Spears’ was wearing a seat belt.
At this time, we do not have updates on the passenger’s condition.
The wreck is being investigated by the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
