SUMMERVILLE, SC – Summerville is now in the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest glass of sweet tea.

People lined up around the block to get a taste and a commemorative mason jar during Wednesday’s National Tea Day celebration and World Record attempt.

The jar holding the record setting sweet tea, stood 10 feet tall and it took 116 pounds of tea and 2100 pounds of sugar to make the tea. Tea testers were able to celebrate with a record smashing tea party outside of Summerville Town Hall.

An official adjudicator from the Guinness Book of World Records was on-site to verify and present the new record. The Charleston Tea Plantation certified it as classic sweet tea. Before Summerville set this record, Chick-fil-A® held the world record for largest sweet tea.

The Town of Summerville, The Charleston Tea Plantation, Dixie Crystals and Scout Boats are now Guinness Book of World Records holders.
