Suspect arrested in downtown kidnapping and armed robbery (Image 1)

Police have arrested a suspect in a kidnapping and armed robbery that happened Tuesday, June 2, 2015 on Cannon Street.

Anthony McClain, 50, of North Charleston, is charged with armed robbery, kidnapping and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. McClain was taken into custody Wednesday by Charleston and North Charleston police.  He’s currently being held in the Al Cannon Detention Center.

We’ve learned the incident happened about 12:45 a.m. when the suspect approached the victim in Cannon Street, pointed a handgun at her and demanded money. The victim gave the suspect her money. He then made the victim get in her car and pointed the handgun at her head.

The suspect made the victim drive him to multiple locations in Charleston and North Charleston. At one of the locations in North Charleston, the suspect took the keys from the vehicle and left her inside of the vehicle.

The victim was able to access a spare key in her vehicle and she was able to escape.

The investigation is ongoing.
