Dorchester County teacher charged with assault and battery

A teacher with the Dorchester District 4 is being charged with assaulting a student.

According to Chief Brett Camp with the St. George Police Department, Jeffery Haton, 46, was arrested Tuesday and released on bond the same night.

Police say the arrest stems from an incident that happened on May 4, but police were not immediately releasing additional information about the incident. After the investigation was completed, Haton was charged with assault and battery to the second degree.

Police say the victim involved is an elementary school student.

We’ve learned Haton works at Williams Memorial Elementary School. According to the school’s website, he is a physical education teacher.
