Gov. Nikki Haley and her top economic official have gone to Washington to meet the president and CEO of South Carolina’s newest automaker.
The governor’s office said Haley and state Commerce Secretary Bobby Hitt were having lunch Monday with president and CEO Volvo Cars Hakan Samuelsson. The meeting was taking place at the Swedish ambassador’s home in Washington.
The governor’s office says Haley always likes to make sure she has a strong relationship with the leaders of any company that chooses to locate in South Carolina.
Volvo announced last week it would build a factory about 30 miles from Charleston. The state offered more than $200 million in incentives. Volvo hopes to build the first car at the plant in 2008 and hire about 2,000 people over the next decade.
