Gregg Middle School in Summerville held a special ceremony to honor veterans.

The ceremony included music and a visual tribute to veterans by the Gregg Middle School chorus, band, and orchestra. Summerville and Ashley Ridge High School's JROTC participated.

The speaker, First Lt. Clebe McClary, a retired Marine is known as an outstanding motivational and inspirational speaker. On March 3, 1968, during his 19th mission in Vietnam, Lt. McClary was severely wounded by an enemy attack. He lost an eye, an arm, and was told he would never walk again. Lt. McClary says veterans should be remembered not just on Veterans Day, but throughout the year. He says, “Well I think we gotta appreciate where our freedoms come from. People have paid, they have given us a chance to work, and worship, and go to school as we do, and I like to try to encourage young people to get in the military.”

As a result of his bravery under fire, Lt. McClary was presented the Silver Star and the Bronze star by the President of the United States.
