Cool School: Gregg Middle School

Academic success, and strong community support, Gregg Middle School has a family atmosphere. We're in Dorchester county for our Cool School of the week.

Gregg Middle School in Dorchester District Two has 11-hundred students in sixth through 8th grade. They have Palmetto Gold and Silver awards, and excellent ratings from the State Department of Education.

Mustang pride is on full display. Gregg has a very strong and very involved PTSA and School Improvement Council. Volunteers are in the school everyday. School leaders say students work hard and believe in the school's motto, “Success is our only option.” Principal Lori Estep says, “Gregg Middle School is a Cool School because of all the great people that we have at Gregg Middle School. Our students, our faculty, and staff, our PTSA, our SIC, our community members, we are one big team. We work together. Our motto is “Success is the only option,” and we make sure that everything we do, every day pushes us in that direction.” Eighth grade student Cyrene Gaddist says, “I guess the thing that makes Gregg Middle School a Cool School is how they keep you so organized. There is so much you can do. There is so many clubs and activities. They keep you busy.” Eighth grade student Riley Fink says, “Gregg middle school is more than a cool school. It's an amazing school. Our teachers are amazing. Our clubs are amazing. We have honor classes that really test the students, and it helps me to move forward when I'm learning.” Teacher Jack Mansor, “I think Gregg Middle School is a Cool School because of it's collaborative nature. Everybody here is focused on one goal, and that's the success of our students, by having that everybody is working together. Everybody is trying to engage their students in different ways.”

The Gregg school family has big hearts. Teachers participate in Jeans for Troops. The school works to raise money for Relay for Life, Hoops for Heart, and they donate to the Lowcountry Food Bank. Students also have an annual Clemson verses Carolina food drive the entire month of November. Stores donate turkeys, and students make Thanksgiving baskets for families in need.
