Marrington Elementary has awards and outstanding community support from military families. We head to Berkeley county for our Cool School of the week.

Marrington is following the ” Leader in Me” model this year. The students put their own twist to it, with an Adele tune.

Marrington Elementary is a 4K to fifth grade elementary school located at Joint Base Charleston in Goose Creek The school serves more than 500 students, 92-percent of them have one or both parents actively serving in the military. Students come from all over the country and other countries as well.

This is the first year for the school's full implementation of common core standards. Marrington has a long history of academic achievements, the school received Palmetto Gold or Silver awards for the past nine years. Also, they received an A-plus rating on the State Report Card the past two years.

Teachers applied for funds to support literacy, math and technology through donors-choose-dot-org and received more than 25-thousand-dollars in classroom materials last school year. Students use IPads, notebooks, and smart boards. School leaders say Marrington is a special place where leadership, learning and love are always front and center. Principal Barbara Webber says, “Marrington Elementary can be a Cool School for so many reasons. First, it's the amazing educators we have in our building. They work tirelessly to bring the best education and the most hands on experience, active learning to our students. It's also because of our students. They are they best. They come from all over the nation and all over the world to be a part of Marrington and help us to be successful, and our course our wonderful volunteers.” Fifth-grade student Jameria Rhodes says, “We get to do fundraisers. We have a cool teacher Miss. Lamb, and cool fifth grade teachers. Third grade student Zander Price says, “We have very nice volunteers, and we get do computer lab, and play games. It's a lot of fun.” “I think it's a Cool School because the teachers are really nice, even though the paper sheets are challenging, they help us learn a lot,” says fourth grade student Tyler Domingue.
