Lots of people use artificial sweeteners thinking they are reducing their sugar intake. But now researchers are finding that artificial sweeteners may not be as sweet as people think.
In an article published in the journal, Trends in Endocrinology and Metabolism, more and more evidence shows that all sweeteners, including those with no calories are having a negative impact on our health.
Doctors says it's not uncommon for people to think artificially sweetened products are healthy and will help them lose weight, but more data has shown that's not the case.
Because a lot of sugar sweetened beverages HAVE been linked to type-2 diabetes and obesity in general, many people are opting for drinks containing artificial sweeteners , which are much sweeter than sugar or fructose syrup. But human studies have found that these artificial sweeteners ALSO have been associated with obesity and type 2 diabetes.
That's because, physicians say, so these products may not satisfy a person's desire for sweets.
Therefore the person still craves real sugary products and consumes more of it.
Researchers suggest that limiting the amount of artificial sweeteners and sweeteners in general, is as good an idea as limiting sugar itself.
