Jennie Moore Elementary School for the Creative Arts has a history that spans 60 years in Mount Pleasant. We're East of the Cooper for our Cool School of the week.
Jennie Moore Elementary is a partial magnet school for the creative arts, serving a diverse population in the East Cooper area.
The National Blue Ribbon school has 760 students in pre-k through 5th grade, and has Palmetto Gold awards for outstanding achievement. Jennie Moore has gifted and talented classes, first grade reading academy. They're a part of the I-Beam mentoring program, and have 81 volunteer reading buddies.
This is Jennie Moore's last few weeks in there school building. They will move to a temporary location for two years, while their new state of the art school is built on this property. Principal Karen Felder says she is proud of all their accomplishments and excited about what's ahead. Felder says, “We have fabulous students. We have the most incredible parent and community volunteers in this building. The teachers are fabulous, office staff, cafeteria staff, everybody that walks through the door of Jennie Moore Elementary School loves Jennie Moore Elementary School and it exudes from them everyday. This is a happy fun place to be.” Second grade teacher Sierra Jung says, “Jennie Moore Elementary is a Cool School because it's a family environment, and all of the teachers work incredibly hard to integrate the curriculum to make it fun, and motivating for our students.” Fifth grade student Charlize Wright says, The teachers actually make it fun for you to learn.” Second grade student Auryanna Ascue says, “I like the different activities we have, and the fun things we get to learn and do.” Fifth grade student Evelyn Howe says, “We do foreign languages. We learn about the arts. We have chorus. It's really fun to learn here.”
Jennie Moore has a very supportive PTA, with more than 300 volunteers. Several students at Jennie Moore Elementary School for the Creative Arts won awards this year at the PTA Art Reflections program on the state and district levels.
This is the last few weeks in the old school building. Jennie Moore will host an open house, a final walk through, Tuesday night from 6 to 7pm for anyone who ever went to or worked at the school.
