Innovative and unique programs, and motivated teachers and students, College Park Elementary School is making academics gains. We're in Ladson for our cool school of the week.

College Park Elementary School has nearly 11-hundred students in 4-K through fifth grade. The Title-One school is a Palmetto Gold and Silver award winner, and has two action based learning labs and academic games available for all classrooms. Regal Beagle ambassadors are a select group of student leaders and role models.

Through a partnership with Joint Base Charleston, students created an outdoor classroom, known as the Bark Park. This year, students began a school-wide Flat Stanley adventure through the Flat Stanley book series writing project.

All year, students sent their Flat Stanleys all over the U.S. and the world. President Obama, Governor Nikki Haley, soldiers in Iraq, and the owner of the Atlanta Falcons all received Flat Stanleys from College Park, and sent them back to the school with pictures and letters about his adventure. The activity promotes writing, research, and geography.

Principal Amanda Prince says College Park the school's culture is special. Prince says, “College Park Elementary is a fabulous place to be. We have an amazing staff, and amazing students, and we really focus on the positive. We're a Cool School because we're not afraid to try new things, and we like to focus on learning, but we also want kids to have fun, and to know that learning is fun.” Fifth grade student Dorothy Craft says, “The teachers here are so nice. I like that about this school.” Fifth grade student Riley Allan says, “They try to help you get grades they push you to, and all the people here are great. Our principal and assistant principal.” Fifth grade student J'Lynne Echevarria says, “We have an awesome school. Our teachers are fun, and they let us be ourselves. We get to learn, but we learn in our different ways.” Teacher Marcus McLean says, “Oh there's so many reasons why College Park Elementary is a Cool school. The Flat Stanley project is just one of them, getting the kids involved in the world and learning about what's going on it just helps make us a cool school.”
