Big things are happening at James B. Edwards Elementary the School of Global Leadership. Students there are on the move. We're in Mount Pleasant for our Cool School of the week.

James B. Edwards has 610 students in 4-year-old through fifth grade. The school has received Palmetto Gold awards since the program began and has excellent ratings on the state report card, an “A” rating on the federal report card.

James B. Edwards is a partial magnet global leadership school this year. Students have chorus and strings, also safety patrol. The school has a spanish class, and a very active PTO. Principal Francine Mitchell says she's proud of the support the school receives from the community. Mrs. Mitchell says, “It's a very special place. James B. Edwards is a Cool School because we have wonderful students. Our teachers care so much about our students, and we have wonderful parents and a wonderful community.” Fifth grade student Jace Williams says, “They're great. I think Mrs. Mitchell is the best principal I ever had at any of my schools.” Third grade student Bates Collar says, “I think that my school is cool because we're learning about the seven habits, and it's helping us be a better leader.” Parent Laurin Collar says, “It's so cool because we're cool. The teachers are great. The principal is great. The kids are learning things that's going to help them the rest of their lives. There's more than reading writing and arithmetic. They're learning leadership skills that is going to help them in the business world years from now, and that's pretty cool.”
