A Beaufort woman is accused of child neglect and animal cruelty after investigators say they found four children and dozens of pets living in unsanitary conditions.
“The suspect, Jessica McManigle, was arrested on four counts of Cruelty to Children and three counts of Cruelty to Animals. Four children were taken into emergency protective custody by Department of Social Services. Two dogs, two rabbits, and thirty-six guinea pigs were seized by Animal Control,” said Beaufort County Sheriff Spokesperson Robin McIntosh.
McIntosh says the animals were found living in unsanitary conditions in the backyard of the home. The children had been living in a minivan in front of the home for an extended period of time.
According to Pet Helpers the animals are being brought to its Charleston office for treatment.
