The Berkeley County Sheriff's Office has charged 64 year old Loney L. Garrett (64) of 408 Garretts Ct. in the Goose Creek area with 43 counts of ill treatment of animals, a felony, in connection with a joint investigation by Berkeley County Animal Control, the Animal Rescue and Relief Organization and the Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff's deputies,, along with members of the above mentioned groups, conducted a search of the property, which is just off ofHowe Hall Rd., on Monday.  They removed forty-five dogs that were being kept in pens in the rear of the residence.  These animals appeared to be in bad health when they were taken for evaluation and treatment.  But now those treating the dogs say it appears they can all be saved and nursed back to health.

Deputies and volunteers also recovered the remains of what is estimated to be over two-hundred dogs that were scattered throughout the wooded area surrounding the property.

Garrett has a bond hearing scheduled for 7:00 Tuesday night at the Hill-Finklea Detention Center in Moncks Corner.

This investigation is on-going and other charges could follow.
